Fly Fishing
“Unless one can enjoy himself fishing with the fly, even when his efforts are unrewarded, he loses much real pleasure. More than half the intense enjoyment of fly-fishing is derived from the beautiful surroundings, the satisfaction felt from being in the open air, the new lease of life secured thereby, and the many, many pleasant recollections of all one has seen, heard and done.”
- Charles F. Orvis, 1886
Fly-Fishing at Mountain Spirit is quite honestly some of the finest fishing in the lower 48. These fish are strong and extremely aerial. We have an abundance of aquatic life in our river as well as our lakes. Our caddis & yellow stone-fly hatches are legendary, a dry fly-fisherman’s paradise. Our early season nymph fishing has always yielded some giant browns.
Our summer water temperatures vary from 47-52degrees Fahrenheit. We are a wading river with a gravel bottom river and recommend rubber spike bottom or felt for more stable footing. A 4 wt rod for the experienced angler or 5 wt for the novice seems to be the best fit.
We have an excellent staff of fishing experts to help you with learning this fine art or simply fine tuning it. Fishing begins in early June and runs through mid November. See you on the river.
“Fly-fishing is the most fun you can have standing up.” - Arnold Gingrich, 1969
